Rules and Regulations Of The Society

SERVING

1. Servers are to remember that reverence is the upmost priority while serving at the Sanctuary and in the Vestry/Sacristy.

2. Servers are not allowed to consume any form of food and drinks in the vestry/sacristy.

3. Should any server be unable to serve his assigned mass, he should contact both his mass IC and 2IC at the earliest opportunity.

4. When servers are unable to serve their assigned mass, only valid reasons allow his attendance to be marked as excused. Examples include: sickness, school, family emergencies, work, National Service Confinement, etc. Unacceptable reasons include: family outings, taking the holidays off, studying for exams, having overslept for morning mass, etc. Other valid reasons are at the discretion of the Mass IC and/or 2IC.

5. Should any server be attending a mass which he is not scheduled for, he should check the if there are sufficient servers for that mass. If not, he should serve for those absent. There should be a minimum of 6 servers per normal weekend mass. As a ministry, we should be united in effort to serve our Lord.

6. Servers are to be in proper attire for serving at the liturgical celebrations. This means shirt/t-shirt, long pants, black socks, full black shoes, as well as clean and ironed cassocks. Coloured shoes are not allowed.

7. Mutual respect must be present among all servers at all times.

8. Servers are to completely turn off all electronic devices during liturgical celebrations.

9. Servers should report to the Vestry/Sacristy 15 to 20 minutes before the start of their masses. If a server is unable to report 15 minutes early due to catechism class timing (11.20am catechism but scheduled for 12.30pm), he should report immediately after his catechism ends, and inform both his Mass IC and 2IC beforehand.

10. For masses with incense, should there be insufficient servers or should there be no server who is trained to do thurible, there will be no incense unless the Priest decides otherwise. In such a situation, one representative is to inform the Priest.

11. Sashes are to be folded properly and returned to their respective drawers at the end of mass.

12. Servers are not allowed to remove sashes from the sacristy without prior permission from the liturgical department.

13. In the Vestry/Sacristy, servers should not use laptops/handphones or any other electronic devices as this is not a respectful way to treat the Vestry/Sacristy

14. All servers are to stay behind to clear up after mass. (This also applies to Sat 5.30pm, Sun 12.30pm and Sun 7.15pm masses)

15. When servers clear up after mass, they are to do it in their cassocks. Do not change out before clearing up, or it will look as though any random lay person is allowed to step on the sanctuary.

16. Servers do not leave the vestry/sacristy until they are dismissed by their Mass IC and 2IC.

17. Servers are to ensure that the table in the sacristy is cleared of all cassocks, cassock covers, bags, etc. The table should be neat.

18. Should any server want to leave his cassock in the vestry/sacristy, he should hang it in the cupboard, with his name on the hanger/cassock cover.

19. Should any server want to leave his black shoes in the vestry/sacristy, he should have it in a shoe bag, with his name on the bag. The shoe bag should be kept in the box.

20. Only Authorized Personal are allowed in the Vestry/Sacristy. Parents and friends (unless they serve in other liturgical ministries) are not authorized to enter the Vestry/Sacristy.

21. All servers are not allowed to play with fire in the vestry/sacristy. The lighting of fires in the sacristy should only be done for legitimate purposes.

22. Servers are to observe proper conduct while serving at the liturgical celebrations. Observe reverence at all times.

23. Servers are to cooperate with the Mass IC and 2IC for Mass. As servers, none of us should fight over jobs. Serving the Lord at the sanctuary is a great privilege.

24. Only Mass IC’s and 2IC’s, or Exco members are to write in the attendance book. Should the attendance of the previous mass be unmarked, the leader marking attendance should call up the leader of the previous mass to help him mark attendance.

25. Should a server receive a text message from his Mass IC or 2IC, he is expected to reply promptly. Communication must be very open so that each server is kept up to date on what is going on in the society that he should be concerned about.

26. Servers are expected to serve their masses regularly. Should a server be absent for 3 times or more in a month, with no valid reason, he will be called by the EXCO to explain his situation. Suspension may be used, however, only in extreme cases and with approval of the Spiritual Director.

CATECHISM CLASS

1. Servers are expected to uphold the society values when in their catechism class. Servers should not misbehave in their catechism class as it reflects poorly on the server as an individual well as the ministry.

2. Servers should maintain the behaviour of an upright and moral catholic in their cathecism class. Servers should try their very best to remember that they are Altar Servers not just at Mass, but every moment and every day of their lives.

MEETINGS

1. Meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month, unless otherwise stated.

2. Meetings are compulsory for all servers. They happen only once a month, and they are necessary to settle events and administration, as well as for servers to connect with each other as a community of brothers. If a server has a valid reason for not attending meetings, he should give prior notice through both his Mass IC and 2IC.

3. Meetings will start promptly at 2.30pm, unless otherwise stated. Servers are expected to be punctual. Servers who serve 12.30pm Mass will be given sufficient time to have their lunch, should Mass end late.

4. Meetings will end at 4.30pm, at the latest. No server is to tell their parents that meeting ended later than 4.30pm as an excuse not to go home. Servers found guilty of this will be subject to disciplinary action.

TRAININGS

1. When trainings are organized for the society, and a server is required to attend, he must attend that training session.

2. Trainings during the school term for primary school and secondary school servers are usually on Sundays at 2.30pm. Servers should be punctual for training sessions.

3. Servers participating in training should give their full co-operation to the trainer conducting the training session. Undermining the trainer is disrespectful.

4. Unless otherwise stated, servers should be in their mass attire (long pants, black socks, black shoes) for trainings. Servers will be notified if they are required to have their cassocks for training.

ACTIVITIES

1. Apart from serving at masses, meetings, and trainings, the society also organizes activities to facilitate the bonding of all servers as a community of brothers.

2. Servers are highly encouraged to come for activities regularly. This society is about much more than what we do at the sanctuary.

BEHAVIOUR

1. All servers are expected to help maintain the facilities provided to them.

2. Servers are to be on their best behaviour, especially when they are in the Church compound. Regardless of whether in the main church or not, it is still the house of God.

3. Respect is shown to each other at all times.
